Todays handheld chess computer has come a long way from electronic
chess of old. They have superb (and variable) strength and are very useful in game
improvement. There's no such thing as CHESS COMPUTERS that are too strong for any player. The
software for any machine has settings from 'novice' to 'expert' so that the computer chess game
is enjoyable and meaningful to any player. The electronic chess screen graphics have improved so that
each piece is distinguishable where the hand held machine is a PDA type computer. The opening database
possibilities in computer chess are enhanced (called the 'opening book') and in most case span several thousand opening possibilities.
Every chess computer has ELO ratings that indicate the machine strength - more applicable to stronger players. What is an ELO
rating? The English Chess Federation have a rating abbreviated to ECF. This rating multiplied by 8 then adding 600
would result in an equivilent ELO metric. Electronic chess machines that have over 1500 are regarded as strong - there are also
computers we have that go up to and over elo 2000. Only very strong players are a challenge to those machines.
What you have to ask yourself is - are you feeling lucky? Well, are you? Actually, even Clint himself would be challenged
by the strongest database settings for these state of the art electronic, database loaded computer chess games.
