I bought the King Charles in Rosewood and the B2009 board to go with it for my husband as a Christmas present. I researched many internet sites both in the UK and US and would say Chessbaron stands head and shoulders above the rest not only in the vastly superior quality and huge range of chess they offer, but in their knowledge and obvious love for any chess set you sell. The King Charles chess set and board can only be described as stunning, with intricate carving and beautiful weighted feel it is a work of art. Kasparov 'Chess Challenger' strong Chess Computer

Another Saitek named after the greatest player of all time (so far! They haven't discovered you yet have they?). Kasparov is now in Russian politics - seems to us that with him as boss the rest of the world might as well lay their King down. But this electronic 'expert' is the best of all Saitek chess computers - the machine strength is superb but it's not just that. The build quality is like the best parts of a Honda, Toyota and VolksWagon rolled in together. But please note this computer doesn't have a steering wheel. Saitek Maestro Hand Held Travel Chess Computer

Gotta hand it to Saitek - this one takes the cake as well as your queen. (Saitek bought the rights to the brand name Mephisto some time ago - this model is also known as the Mephisto Maestro) The model has contrast and back light settings. The chess piece graphics take a couple of games getting used to and with an elo rating of 1600 it'll be off with your Queens head in no time. Strong Chess Computers: Saitek Master

Only consider this machine if you either have 'grand' as a title in front of your name -or- are into self humiliation on a Biblical scale. The Saitek is a serious chess machine that says 'don't try this at home' on many counts. Of course, you can select it's lower levels but it subsequently feels like you're playing an opponent that starts the game without it's Queen. It'll still beat you. Saitek didn't use the 'Kasparov' name they must have paid a fortune for, but its the prime model in the range that deserves it. Buy the Saitek Master chess computer

Isle of Lewis Chess Set - Number One

The most famous of theme chess. This poor chap looks like his helmet resembles his lower right molar. Cheer up mate! It's only chess games. The original Isle of Lewis chess pieces consist of elaborately worked walrus ivory and whales' teeth in the forms of seated kings and queens, mitred bishops, knights on their mounts, standing warders and pawns in the shape of obelisks. Very best of traditional triple weighted and felted designs with a slight Elvis quiff of a difference. Double queens. Perfect in every way! Best example we know of trad. chess sets. Ebony version of above. Contrasts beautifully with the suggested chess board (B2009). Double queens. A work of art that gives real atmosphere to the room! Draws gasps of admiration from anyone who sees it (we constantly find). Keep these under lock and key - they'll be a walkin' out the door.

Called the Ultimate for a reason. Our favourite in our inventory of chess sets. Double queens. Triple weighted and felted. Can't keep our eyes off it - in danger of being labelled a stalker. When we say 'our' favourite. we actually mean the Boss's favourite among our chess sets - ahhh... what does he know?

Great Chess Sets: Royal Knight Bud Rosewood Chess Set.

Rich coloured and beautiful. Triple weighted, felted and beautiful and double queens. Bud Rosewood version of above and beautiful. I think I'm in love. It's Regal, Noble and Royal all in one. One for the Prince and Camilla to play the royal game to while away those tedious evenings now he's given up Polo.

Bronte in Rosewood King Triple Weight.

Bud Rosewood (or red sandalwood, if you prefer, same thing) version of above. Double queens. 'Bust' style of knight that is unusual yet traditional. Did Charlotte play chess - or do our chess sets just have her inspiration? What would Heathcliffe say - or is he still moping over Cathy?

Sinead Staunton in Bud Rosewood.

Clean lines, delectable, classic - look at the colouring - so rich in hues of the bud rosewood used (generally regarded, in Europe at least, as the better coloured chess sets). The appearance of the knight is so majestic and has that favourite feature of ours - gaps between the teeth - makes you want to reach for your toothbrush huh? Careful - this horsey bites!

King John in very heavy Brass.

Very heavy brass chess sets rarely come along - we don't do many because we only want the best. This one is a great line and really is among the best available in the world. A great feature is the way the set improves with age, as darker areas appear through time (not discolouration, rather the desirable effect of oxidisation over years). Older ones are often more expensive but rarely available.

Royal Shock Staunton in Ebony.

Ebony version of the above. Does anyone have some scissors handy, someone needs a haircut around here. Bud Rosewood chess sets have richer colouring, but gotta say that we marginally prefer the Ebony version of this one, but both are great - a judgement call. Prefer Ebony chess sets or Bud Rosewood chess sets? Whichever - bring the scissors along.

Majestic Staunton Triple Weighted in Ebony.

Majestic by name - and ... well, you get the point. At 5.5" high the King has a certain poise we other more down to earthers can't have. But what is most impressive about this one is something we can't convey in photos of chess sets. The balance of the whole set feel so good in the hand. All the better for the final executing move accompanied by the utterance - checkmate, mate!

Majestic Staunton Triple Weighted Chess Set in Bud Rosewood.

Strike a pose. Madonna would feel challenged by this fella. In the rich bud rosewood version of the above chess set - this King is tall and imposing. The rings around each pieces' torso's are... hmmm.. suggestive, but just look at that knight and it's close-up detail. As for Maddonna, His majesty might well lead her a dance too. Watch out guy, ermmm... I mean, Guy.!

Lotus Carved Weighted Chess Set.

One of the less obvious staunton influences, it can still be seen, but just departs from the genre a little more obvisously. Take a look. The lotus design of chess sets itself is somewhat established, this one is a great example with it's flower shoots opening up to swallow the opposing side. Oooh, Ahhh, Missus!

Chamfered Base Triple Weighted, felted in Rosewood.

Traditional, double queens, lovely balance, pefectly proportioned, well defined torso for each piece - not unlike my own - though the chess pieces generally draw more approval from onlookers. The chamfered is perfection in traditional chess design, the knight has superb detail and all other pieces match beautifully. Now, back to those ab excercises...

Exotic Christina Chess Set in Camel Bone.

Who is this Christina - and why is she so exotic? Oooh... take a look at this one and you'll see why we name it this way. Weighted and felted - how can they get so much detail on a single chess piece made from camel bone? But not just the detail - the shapes are somewhat alluring, even exotic.

Chamfered Base Triple Weight Chess Set in Bud-Rosewood.

The ultimate chamfered - the best wood - the best weighting, rich colours of Bud Rosewood just draw gasps from onlookers. In the pre traditional designs, this one is marginally better than the Margaret Anne 4", perfect and sleek, ooooh... come to Daddy...
