Made in England by Berkeley Chess. Heavily weighted and pure quality, these METAL characters are very high quality, with the detail highlighted in the metal. Alice’s “Adventures in Wonderland” appeared in 1865 and ‘Through the Looking Glass’ in 1872. Both books were superbly illustrated by John Tenniel and it is on his drawings that these chess figures are based. The King is The White King. the Queen is obviously Alice. The Bishop is The Mad Hatter which may be the most alluring character in the set – our eyes are drawn to him. The Knight is The White Knight. The Rooks are Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, and the Pawn is the White Rabbit.
